Trip: 20-27 Aug 2010

We had some glorious days this week. They were much appreciated after one or two blustery days the week before. So as the saying goes, we tried to make hay while the sun was shining. As soon as the barometric pressure stabilized the fishing went crazy. Sitting around the camp fire that night, the guides had a good laugh recalling how flies and wire trace were being chewed up faster than they could be replaced. This is to be expected with the mighty Tigerfish!

One of the clients, hastily trying to recover a precious black whistler lost his rod tip in the water and simultaneously broke the leader. Fish were going crazy around the boat, with the rod tip slowly taking in water. The guide and client stare in horror as the tip slowly begins to descend and a stream of bubbles follows the tip to the bottom of a croc infested channel. Would a guide jump in for a rod tip? I guess so... The water was warm, the guide didn't get eaten by a croc, the client got the rod tip and caught fish.

The biggest fish of the week was a beautiful 6.1kg Tiger caught by Phil Clement on a smallish black whistler right at the death of the evening.
Until next time
