Providence Blog: 8-15 April 2025

A new week on Providence brought fresh tides, renewed energy, and the ever-present hope of landing big fish. Despite variable weather conditions, the group embraced every challenge and enjoyed a highly productive week on the flats.

Day 1:
Partly cloudy skies greeted the anglers on their first day. Dan, in his second week, started strong with three bonefish, while Ron kicked things off with a GT (giant trevally). Mike and Dave celebrated their first-ever GTs—Mike landing two, Dave one. Andrew also opened his week with a GT, and Craig added a stunning triggerfish. Elsewhere, Gavin and Edgard capped the day with impressive bumphead parrotfish (bumpies), marking a solid start.

Day 2:
Rain and clouds rolled in, but spirits stayed high. Nic, Mark J, and Craig had a standout day, landing eight GTs between them—including two double-ups and a 90cm trophy for Nic. Dave added two more GTs, while Andrew landed a remarkable 101cm fish. Dan and Ron both landed napoleons, with Dan also catching a yellowspotted trevally. Bill mirrored this with a yellowspotted trevally and a GT. Plenty of other species rounded out a busy day on the flats.

Day 3:
With sunshine returning, the third day proved fruitful. Patricio led with three GTs, Edgard added another, and Mark hooked into a fantastic 103cm GT after a solid tussle. Gavin landed two, including a monster 110cm trophy on a 10wt rod—exceptional work all around.

Day 4:
Shifting winds and unpredictable weather tested the anglers, but persistence paid off. Patricio and Edgard each managed another GT. Gavin landed a sizeable barracuda, Craig netted two GTs, and Dan wrapped up with a rewarding 96cm GT late in the day.

Day 5:
High winds and heavy rain made for tough conditions, yet the anglers pressed on. Gavin pulled in a GT, and Patricio landed another napoleon. Dan scored two GTs, one of which measured a solid 100cm. Despite the weather, the flats continued to deliver a wide variety of species, showcasing the atoll’s diversity.

Day 6:
A sunny but breezy final day brought the week to a strong close. Patricio, Edgard, and Andy each landed a GT. Mark, Mark J, and Bill followed suit, while Nic and Dan each added two more GTs. Craig ended on a high note with a 100cm GT—an outstanding way to conclude the trip.

As tides shift toward neaps in the coming days, anticipation remains high for more multispecies action. The week was not only productive but also a testament to the determination and skill of all anglers involved.
