St Brandon Blog: 1–11 September 2026
The opening week of St Brandon’s September 2026 season got off to a promising start, with neap tides bringing moderate water movement and favourable conditions across the atoll’s expansive flats. The gentler tidal flow allowed anglers to carefully stalk fish in a variety of habitats, producing consistent action and several memorable catches throughout the week.
Bonefishing was undoubtedly the highlight, with an impressive 117 bonefish landed over the course of the week. The quality of fish was equally encouraging, with several exceptional specimens brought to hand. Kurt enjoyed a particularly memorable week, landing superb 8.5 lb and 8 lb bonefish, while John and Tomi each added magnificent 8 lb fish to the tally. These outstanding catches once again highlighted the remarkable size and quality of St Brandon’s bonefish population and reinforced the atoll’s reputation as one of the world’s premier bonefishing destinations.
Permit fishing proved challenging during the opening week. Although several opportunities presented themselves, these notoriously elusive fish managed to evade capture. Nevertheless, the encounters provided plenty of excitement and served as a reminder of the patience and precision required when pursuing one of saltwater fly fishing’s most coveted species.
The giant trevally also made their presence felt, with fish seen terrorising baitfish across the atoll. Jorg capitalised on the action, landing an impressive 108 cm GT, a magnificent fish and undoubtedly one of the week’s standout catches. A bluefin trevally was also brought to hand, adding further variety to an already productive week.
With excellent bonefish numbers, several trophy specimens, and an impressive GT to round things off, the opening week provided a fantastic start to the season. A big thank-you to all our guests for their enthusiasm and great company. We’re excited to see what the coming weeks have in store.
Tight lines,
